Tips to Find More Service Hours

Need more service hours before Confirmation? There are many opportunities within the school and parish alone, not to mention the opportunities in Dublin and the greater Columbus area.

Why earn service hours?
The primary reason is to live out our faith in our actions. Scripture repeatedly calls us to serve the poor, to treat others the way we want to be treated, and to be giving with our time and talents. For this reason and others, all students must earn 25 hours before Confirmation; these hours can be earned during the 7th and 8th grade years.

Where can I find service opportunities?

Here are some of the best starting places to look, but no one should feel limited to this list.

  • School events at St. Brigid: Pizza Bingo and other events need help from big kids.
  • St. Brigid Athletics: Some sports, like football and basketball, need concession stand workers.
  • Parish events: Ministry weekend and other parish-run events often need helpers.
  • EPIC (St. Brigid’s youth group): This group often completes projects together, either at the church or in the local community. It’s also a great social opportunity. Find out more here.
  • Dublin and Columbus: Check in with food pantries, pet shelters, the Miracle League, and other appropriate charitable organizations to inquire if they have current needs or events.

Want an easy place to start? Check the church bulletin on Sundays to see if any calls for help are being advertised.

Where do I get a service hour form?
The form can be found here on the school’s website.

When should I turn in my service hour forms?
All forms should be turned in to Mrs. Lombardo IMMEDIATELY. It does NOT help students or the school to file them away at home and wait to turn them in. (If students are concerned, they can always make a copy and keep copies at home, but the office needs the originals ASAP.)

Mrs. Lombardo and the middle school teachers track students’ progress toward 25 hours, so we do need to have the forms at school and know how every child is progressing towards this important goal.

Where can I get more service hour information?
Read more on the school website, or direct questions to Mrs. Lombardo and the middle school team.
