January Student-Led Conferences Preview

The middle school’s next student-led conferences are taking place this Wednesday, January 27th. Here’s a quick preview of what you can expect to see there.

First, your child will pick up his or her folder from the homeroom teacher, and families will be welcome to choose a table in any of the middle school classrooms. (We have even more rooms reserved this time, so there should be plenty of space to spread out and preserve some privacy for your conversation!)

During the conference, teachers will be available to answer questions, BUT your child will be the star of the show! He or she will present the following information to you...

  1. Progress toward goals: Students will review the academic and discipleship goals that were set in September, including what progress they have achieved, what trends the students have self-reported in behavior, and what goals to set for second semester.
  2. Scaled scores for STAR Math and Reading: Students will share their recent January scores from STAR Math and Reading scores. Families will be able to discuss why those numbers went up, went down, or stayed the same. Students can also discuss strategies to foster further improvement between now and the next STAR testing period in May.
  3. Art portfolios: Students will have their art folders in hand to share their latest pieces.
  4. Midterm exam grades: Students will have all five midterm exams in their SLC folders, and they can discuss patterns, how successfully they had prepared in advance, and what lessons to learn from this experience before final exams in May. (You might invite your child to view the middle school teachers’ videos about studying and test-taking skills before finals.)
If you have any lingering questions as you exit your conference, there will be an optional signup opportunity to request an email, phone call, or meeting from the appropriate teacher(s) who can best answer those questions.
